Storagely team develop new Langley Mill site with local wildlife in mind

Storagely Langley Mill is nestled on the edge of the Erewash Valley on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border. The river and canal form important wildlife corridors and supports rich plant and animal life.

The protection of this valuable natural area has been a prominent consideration throughout the installation of the site. As part of our commitment to minimise our impact, we have installed a number of features to support the local wildlife alongside our developing business.

Snake Pits: Two grass snake hibernacula (underground shelters) have been built on the edges of the site.

Most commonly found in grasslands and wetlands, the grass snake is the UK’s longest snake, but don’t worry if you find one as they are non-venomous and completely harmless. The snake pits are filled with a mixture of rocks, rubble, logs and brash and covered with a layer of topsoil or turf, providing an ideal habitat for these shy creatures.

Bird & Bat Boxes: A number of bird boxes have been included to provide habitats for a range of small bird species. Additionally, two bat boxes will be installed on retained mature trees to provide additional roosting opportunities for bats in the area, such as Common and Soprano Pipistrelles.

As our new Storagely business grows at Langley Mill we are dedicated to developing responsibly through sustainable practices that safeguard our distinct local ecosystem.
